On our ceremonial journey we need to look to the Mayans first. The word “cacao” comes from the Mayan words “Ka’kau” meaning “heart blood.”
This blood connection comes from the belief that the Mayan gods bled onto the cacao pods, and cacao was considered one of the ingredients used to create humanity. The scientific genus name for cacao is theobroma, which translates to “Food of the Gods,” and the Mayans believed that cacao was restoring balance and connection to the divine.
“A Mayan legend tells us that whenever there is an imbalance between humans and nature, cacao comes from the rainforest to open people’s hearts and return the planet to a state of harmony. Some shamans, therefore, consider cacao the 'food for the shift.' It represents the new order of love and peace, which is being cultivated right now.”
- Keith Wilson, the Cacao Shaman
Cacao contains more phenolic antioxidants than most foods and several minerals necessary for vascular function. Dietary magnesium, copper, potassium, and has more calcium than cow’s milk. As a Vasodilator, it widens the blood vessels and literally opens our hearts, which is why it’s very often called the love medicine. There are over 1,500 known biochemicals in cacao and several, such as serotonin, tryptophan, caffeine, theobromine, and phenylethylamine, tyrosine, tryptamine and tyramine have mood-boosting effects. It also increases the production of anandamine, which comes from the Sanskrit word “ananda” (internal bliss) producing feelings of bliss and happiness.
Plant medicines are spirits, each with their own consciousness, gifts, and healing powers. Cacao forms the foundation of the feminine energy of all plants whilst tabaco is the basis of the masculine energy. Meeting with the cacao spirit - an elevated being is an honor. She is always ready to bestow her wisdom to those who seek it. She is our teacher and so approaching with reverence and humility is good practice.
We will open a circle, set our intention in the collective energy, honor the medicine of cacao, and start our journey. The journey is composed of Breathwork, somatic work, dyads, introspections and shamanic healing. This is an incredibly potent medicine and you will gain clarity and purpose.
I first encountered the cacao medicine in one of Christina's White Wolfe's amazing ceremonies shortly after I moved to California. Christina's ceremonies are beautiful and definitely connect you with your highest self. I was so fascinated by the effects that this had on me that I started an initiation with the medicine. I started assisting Christina to some of her beautiful events, and finally undertook training in Mexico, and here in California with Vickie Gould, from Life Changing Energy. I keep studying this medicine as it is so gentle and at the same time so potent.
My cacao ceremonies are posted on my social medias, and on this website. You can also request a private event.
